I can not believe it has been so long since my last post on the 5th chakra. I hope the Crown Chakra will not take so long. 

The Third Eye Chakra; 6th Chakra (Ajna) – Intuition, Wisdom.

Sanskrit name: Ajna or to perceive, to know

Location: Above and between the eyebrows

Associated color: Indigo

Main Issues: Intuition, Wisdom

Endocrine Gland: Pituitary

Body parts: Eyes, and the base of the skull

Astrological sign: Sagittarious, Pisces

Sense: Sixth sense

It Is the seat of dreams, inner vision, spiritual direction and wisdom. It is connected to the pituitary, hypothalamus and the pineal glands – located in the center of our brain. An open 6th Chakra allows us to receive wisdom from our inner world – the world of our dreams, our unconscious and subconscious minds, and our imagination.

The Third Eye is also connected very much to our physical eyes, and is thought to be an elevated vibration of our capacity “to see”.


If the 6th Chakra is blocked we may experience headaches, suppressed memories, frequent nightmares, depression and anxiety

Overactive: Confusion, fogginess, know- it-all, inflexible, judgmental.

Underdeveloped: Follow the crowd, fear of change,

Imbalances overall: learning disability,  poor coordination, sleep disorders, fear of truth, flightiness, passive aggressive, confusion, depression, eye problems, deafness.

Balanced: Living an inspired and inspiring life; wise, discerning, perceptive and imaginative individuals who believe in themselves and their abilities

Foods: Because of its associations with indigo, dark foods like blueberries, blackberries,  grapes, grape juice or red wine will stimulate the Sixth Chakra.

I would like to share the manta’s for all chakra’s: From Ancient Voices Harmonic Therapy. 

In traditional Hatha Yoga & Ayurveda, the seven Bija mantras associated with the chakras are:

LAM (Lum) – for the earth chakra (1)
VAM (Vum) – for the water chakra (2)
RAM (Rum) – for the fire chakra (3)
YAM (Yum) – for the heart chakra (4)
HAM (Hum) – for the throat chakra (5)
Sham (Shum) – for the third eye (6)
OM – for the crown chakra (7)

How do the chakras and meridians correlate

In Traditional Chinese Medicine three of these “Chakras” are paid special attention to. These powerful “Chakra”s are referred to as  “Dan Tiens.”  Roughly translated, “Dan Tien” means “Field of Treasure.” The three Dan Tiens are,

  1. The Navel (Chi or bodily energy)
  2. The Heart (Shi or emotional energy)
  3. The Third eye (Yi or mental energy).

Interesting that I still have not finished my Chakra’s Blogs. I made a post on each of the chakra’s and ways to open them up and explain more about them. However, the last one I did was #5 the throat chakra. I guess I needed to work on being heard and speaking. Well, I found this blog/website today in using Kundalini Yoga poses to clear each Chakra. I will incorporate these into my yoga practice. I will also soon finish up a blog for the last two Chakras.

5 Signs Your First Chakra Is Weak

The existence and functionality of the chakra system is the basis of many ancient practices such as acupuncture, martial arts, reiki and yoga. Each of us have seven major chakras that begin at the base of the spine and extend up the spine through to the crown of the head. These areas store energy and send it out through the meridians (a path through life-energy or your “qi” flows)  to service the entire physical body.

Chakras can wax and wane in their strength and vibrancy. They can even become blocked and stagnant like ponds that don’t have enough flow. So it’s not an exaggeration to say that complete health of body and mind begins and ends with the health of the chakras.

Each of the seven major chakras deal with different aspects of the body, the mind and the soul, although all seven chakras are interconnected and interdependent.

The First Chakra

Probably the most common chakra to be in a weakened state is the First Chakra. Sometimes called the Root Chakra, the First Chakra is located at the very base of your spine. It deals with issues of physical survival, safety and security and is blocked and weakened by fear and insecurity.

Which is why it deserves some extra love and attention, because the First Chakra acts as a pump at the base of the chakra system that helps energy rise and flow. If this base pump is weak, work done on the other chakras won’t be as effective.

So look out for these signs, and work on strengthening your First Chakra using the guide below:

Five Signs Your First Chakra is Weak

  1. You feel a general lack of physical energy and vitality resulting in a lackluster will to create.

  1. Your sense of well-being is highly dependent upon external circumstances. So long as everything is going smoothly and to your liking, you feel OK, but when circumstances aren’t to your liking, you feel insecure.

  1. You feel a general lack of confidence in dealing with anything outside your comfort zone.

  1. You believe that money creates security and that there is an amount of money that if attained, would guarantee your security.

  1. You experience any of the following physical symptoms on a frequent or recurring basis: eating disorders, adrenal fatigue, foot and leg pains and injuries, rectal or colon problems, immune disorders or bone disorders.

Five Things You Can Do To Strengthen Your First Chakra

  1. Make a list of everything you tend to think of as providing your sense of security. Now cross off any items on that list that could be taken away from you without your permission. What is left? Anything? Now, make another list titled, “Things That Can Never Be Taken From Me.” You might have to reflect a little more on this list – but it’s worth the time to do so. These are the true source of your security.

  1. Reconnect your body to the earth in some physical way. Walk barefoot in the dirt or go outside and sit beneath a large tree, resting your back against the trunk. Spend time reflecting on all the ways you are supported like nature.

  1. Sing the word “grow”, holding out the “oh” sound as long as your breath allows. The word grow provides the proper vowel sound and has meaning related to the First Chakra. As you hold out the “oh” sound, bring your attention to the base of your spine and feel it vibrating and glowing red, sending life and health to your entire lower body.

  1. Do the “Mudra Lock” breath. From any sitting position, inhale deeply into your lower belly. Now hold the breath in and tightly squeeze everything from your navel to your buttocks. Hold the squeeze for a few counts. Exhale, and with the breath held out, repeat the squeezing and holding for another few counts. As you are squeezing, try to feel the energy rising up your spine and reaching the crown of your head.

Perform the “Seated Pelvic Rotation” yoga asana below:

 5 Signs Your First Chakra Is Weak

Sit in a cross-legged position and grab your knees with your hands. Slowly rotate your hips and waist in a clockwise circle. Imagine that your navel is tracing as wide a circle around your seated center position as possible.

Use your arms as leverage (as shown by figures 2 and 3). Keep the movement slow and steady, breathing naturally but without trying to synchronize your breath with your movement. Breathe through your nose if you can.

Continue this clockwise movement for twenty to thirty seconds. Now reverse the direction and begin in a counter clockwise direction, for another twenty to thirty seconds.

Vishuddha- Throat 5th Chakra

The Sanskrit word for the 5th chakra is “Vishuddha” which means “purity.” This is the first of the chakras that focuses primarily on the spiritual plane. The 4th chakra is spiritual, but it is also the bridge between the lower chakras that focus on earth and the upper chakras that deal with spirituality.

both personal will and divine will. It is here that we make choices, each choice directing us on our spiritual journey.

Located in the throat and governs higher communication, speaking, hearing and listening, it helps us to understand our inner truth and convey it with our voice to the outside world.

Various components: trachea, esophagus, cervical vertebrae, and throat; as well as the jaw, ears, mouth, teeth, gums, bronchial tubes, upper lungs and shoulders.

The gland: thyroid, parathyroid. The thyroid dictates our ability to physically grow and this chakra parallels that by being about spiritual growth.

Sense: hearing. Chanting, singing, speaking, reading aloud are all good for the 5th chakra. The vibrations of all these things affect the body down to the cellular level.

Deficient energy: neck and shoulder problems, jaw disorders, throat problems, an under active thyroid and a fear of speaking.

Excessive energy: hearing problems, inability to listen, excessive talking and an overactive thyroid.

The main issue of this chakra is communication and self-expression. However, this chakra is also focused on faith or trust. This chakra incorporates higher levels of spirituality and the trust becomes one of believing you can speak your truth and your inner knowing because it comes from a pure source. When this chakra is balanced you are content, find it easy to communicate, and may be artistically inspired.

As I have spoken of this in past post…. I would say I am grateful to know be working on my 5th chakra. 

Childhood traumas where children were made to believe their opinions were worthless, or they were told to “be quiet”, “be seen and not heard” or otherwise rejected, can affect later development of this chakra. The person may put on a “mask” to hide the belief that no one values their opinion.

A blocked throat chakra may result in a person that does not communicate with others and holds back from any form of self-expression. They may seem to hold inconsistent views as they sway with the opinions of others. Blocked chakras can also be expressed in people that appear over-talkative as they put on a mask of comedy- always being the clown, making light of a situation, and cracking jokes.

If this chakra spins too fast the person may be seen as self-righteous, arrogant and over-talkative without taking the time to listen.

Emotional: Difficulty communicating, shyness, egotism, mousiness, feelings of being unempowered, addiction, being overly critical, being uncreative,

For an under-active fifth chakra, look for dark blue stones such as Sodalite or Lapis Lazuli. They will help your self-talk.

For an over-active fifth chakra, look for lighter blue stones like  blue lace agate, aquamarine, and blue quartz. This can strengthen your communication with others.

The throat chakra is essential for our connection to food. It serves as the gateway for food to enter our physical body. Our intent for that food is set within the throat chakra, and the throat chakra determines and chooses foods that are needed for our highest good

Manipura Chakra… 3rd Chakra

The third chakra, often called the solar plexus, is our personal power centre, the magnetic core of the personality and ego.power centre, the magnetic core of the personality and ego.

Some signs that the Solar Plexus Chakra is out of balance are:

  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Poor ability to make decisions or judge a situation accurately
  • A feeling that you are more important than other people
  • Trouble taking action or getting things done

Side Note: I have always been told my spleen is out of wake and when Gabi gave me reiki it was my solar plex that often needed the most energy. I do think it is in more balance today which is leading me on a different path then the past.

Primary Fears
Fears of rejection, criticism, looking foolish and failing to meet ones responsibilities, all fears relating to physical appearance, such as fear of obesity, baldness or aging, fears that others will discover our secrets.

Low Self-Esteem
I think one of the worst things parents do is create low self-esteem because they don’t have the patience to deal with their kids. Teaching them to be submissive and just fall in line does not foster Self Esteem or help them succeed.

It can lead to Low self-esteem and the confidence to make your own choices. You don’t know how to express your voice. I can speak from experience here. On the other end  some end up being controlling and dominating to feel confident but it is likely the lack of self confidence which promotes this.

The Second Chakra or energy center is called Svadhisthana which means sweetness.Water is the element. It is located in the sacrum and connected to sexuality, creativity, emotions and nurturing. When it out of balance emotional problems may occur such as sexual guilt and you may become self-centered, distrusting and cold towards others. You may also be over-emotional, obsessive about someone, depressed, have a lack of sexual drive of excessive libido. If it is over stimulate you may be addicted to drugs, gambling, food, and sex.

Overactive Second Chakra:
Greediness, Addiction, Tension, Compulsivity, Frustration.

An Underactive Second Chakra: 
Disinterest, Repressed Feelings, Self-deprivation, Depression, Sexual Repression.

Physical health problems may include: problems with fertility, kidney and bladder infections, impotence, lower back pain, problems with hips, chronic fatigue.

Ways to balance the 2nd Chakra:

Colors: Orange
Foods: Honey, healthy oils and fatty acids, nuts, chocolate, bread & butter, milk & dairy, ice cream, wine, pasta. Again if these are foods you are addicted to you maybe overactive in this area and may need to eliminate them from your diet.
Herbs: Fennel, Coriander, Calendula
Essential Oils: Oils that are Uplifting, calming and balance the yin/yang.  Examples are Jasmine,  Patchouli and Rosemary.
Stones/Crystals: Carnelian, Orange Calcite, Coral, Amber.

My feelings are healthy. Part of the miracle of being alive is having the capacity to feel, to learn and experience the world through my senses. I do not confuse this wonder with the greater wonder of love. I can allow myself to feel without fear. I am guided by the voice of my Higher Self, not controlled by my body. My body seeks only genuine and healing pleasures that are healthy and balanced.


Cobra posture,: A true classic in Yoga, and is indicated for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th

Chakras. It improves posture, strengthens the spine while helping it to be more flexible. Circulation is improved from the additional blood flow through the vertebrae. It is also good for the heart.

Twist: If you want get your spine to be more flexible and increase the blood flow into the vertebrae and nerves, this posture stimulates it all. It also strengthens the inner organs (liver, pancreas, and spleen). This is also written about in Hatha Yoga Pradipika.

Hip circles and pelvic rocking are also good for the 2nd Chakra.

Chakra’s & Healing…Base Chakra Muladhara…

There are 7 main Charkra’s and over 100 mini Chakra’s in our body.  I am going to touch base on each Chakra and ways to benefit each one. Kundalini is thought to rise up the chakra’s to awaken us. And it sit’s in the base chakra. This is the Chakra I will start with.

Base Chakra in Sanskrit, Muladhara literally translates as ‘root’. Earth is the element.  It is at the base as we need it strong and balanced to feel grounded and secure. It is how we connect to the physical world.  When it unbalanced you may feel isolated, insecure and ungrounded and overly concerned with material things. It is also connected to eating and you may find yourself overweight if it is overactive. When it is overactive you become indulgent in food and drink to fulfill your basic needs. The challenge is to accept our body, feel it, validate it and love it. If it is under active you might feel depression, chronic fatigue, daydreaming, delusions, anorexia, chain-smoking and mental illness.

Overactive Base Chakra:
Paranoia, Aggression, Mania, Nervousness, Fear

Under-active Base Chakra:
Apathy, Weakness, Depression, Passivity, Lethargy

Physical Health Problems may include: Constipation, obesity, sciatica, immune disorders and hemorrhoids.

Ways to balance your first Chakra… and maybe beware if your are over stimulated.

Colors: Red and Black

Stones/Crystals: Black obsidian, Hematite, Black Tourmaline, Garnet, Smokey Quartz.

Foods: Protein and Root Vegetables, Spinach. Red or black colored foods.

Herbs: Cayenne Pepper, Hot Spices, Ginger. *Cayenne pepper is  detoxifying so I think it good in either case to bring it to the surface and purge. Although if you are overactive in this Chakra you probably crave spices and need to cut back on them.

Essential Oils: Grounding-Sandalwood, Cedarwood Rosewood. Isolation, Fear, Anxiety-Frankincense, Clary Sage and Ylang Ylang.

To balance this chakra, affirm every day:
I have a beautiful physical body. I assume responsibility for my body. I recognize it is a gift from God and I can trust it I am safe inside my body and I take good care of me. My base chakra is open, balanced and I am fully grounded and comfortable being me.

I am safe and secure at all times.


I am divinely protected and guided and my way is made smooth and easy.



I know that I belong. I know that I am safe.


People now support me in an easy and pleasurable way.


It is safe for me to enjoy my life now.



I am responsible for the quality of my life.



I am open to new ideas, new thoughts, and new people in my life.


I trust life supports me in fulfilling my purpose.


I can risk doing what I feel is right.
I am a life enhancer.
I am creating a healthy foundation on which creativity can flourish.

Yoga Postures:

Locust: The blood flows through the legs down into the kidneys to flush out toxins.

Kegal: is not a Yoga posture, but is an invaluable stretch for the muscle that encircles the vagina and anus in women and the base of the penis and anus in men. It is the pubococcygeus (aka PC muscle). It stretches from the pubic bone to the coccyx, and can be strengthened with the Kegel exercise. It is a very important exercise to do every day, as often as you can think about it!

Setu Bandhasana- Bridge: It strengthens the muscles of the abdomen and thighs.
